Bike Walk Kentucky is already making big inroads in its mission to educate and advocate for safe bicycling and walking across Kentucky.
During the last legislative session, BWK volunteers and board members visited key members of the legislature in February and March to introduce our organization and present the statewide goals endorsed by BWK. Senator Jimmy Higdon, Chair of the Interim Joint Transportation Committee, then invited BWK to address his committee in full during the summer.
On August 16, BWK board president Mike Sewell was joined by Jennifer Kirchner, Executive Director of Kentuckians for Better Transportation (KBT), in addressing the committee. Bike Walk Kentucky is now a member of KBT, which has added multi-modal transportation in its safety platform. Sewell presented BWK as a new statewide organization focused on advocacy, education, health and safety, and tourism and economic development. Kirchner addressed the importance of the upcoming Complete Streets policy for Kentucky. Bike Walk Kentucky is grateful to KBT for its partnership in advocating for safety in all modes of transportation and looks forward to more opportunities to work together.
