Show that you Share the Road!

You’ve seen those cool, jazzy Share the Road license plates all around, right? You can have one too – and at the same time help our communities support safe walking and biking.

Proceeds from your purchase fund the annual Paula Nye Memorial Education Grants to communities all across Kentucky.

Getting a Share the Road plate is easy!

For a new plate, simply contact your local county clerk’s office.

You will need to go to your county clerk’s office if you:

  • Recently purchased a new vehicle
  • Sell or trade your vehicle that has a personalized plate
  • Buy a Share the Road license plate

If you want to renew a plate, you can do it online.

What you will need and other tips

  • Photo ID.
  • Current original (not a copy) proof of Kentucky insurance effective date within 45 days.
  • Money for fees and applicable taxes (check with your county clerk’s office for accepted forms of payment).
  • Vehicles brought into Kentucky from another state will be required to have a Sheriff’s Inspection.
  • At your county clerk, make your request up front for the Share the Road plate.
  • When purchasing a new car, sometimes a dealership will obtain the Share the Road plate for you. If not, go to the county clerk with the original plate and exchange it for the Share the Road plate. You will be responsible for the additional $10 fee.
