Bike Walk Kentucky 2025 Highlights

Looking Back—and Rolling Forward
2025 was a year of showing up, strengthening partnerships, and laying the groundwork for a bigger, bolder future for walking and biking across the Commonwealth. From supporting local Bike/Walk organizations to investing in statewide leadership and launching a new Program Manager role, Bike Walk Kentucky continued to build momentum for people-powered movement in every corner of Kentucky.
Here are a few highlights from the year—and what’s ahead.
Supporting Bike & Walk Communities Across Kentucky
Bike Walk Kentucky was proud to support and participate in events that elevate walking and biking as essential parts of healthy, connected communities:
- Sponsored and participated in Tri-State Trails’ 16th Annual Breakfast on the Bridge, promoting National Bike to Anywhere Day and celebrating everyday trips by foot and bike.
- Attended the 2025 Kentuckians for Better Transportation Conference, representing the critical role that people-powered transportation plays in Kentucky’s economy, health, and overall well-being.
- Sponsored Week Without Driving, organized by Living Streets Lexington, helping shine a light on transportation choices beyond the car.
- Sponsored and attended National Bike to Work Day 2025, organized by Bike Louisville, supporting commuters who choose active and sustainable ways to get around.
- Represented Bike Walk Kentucky at the Kentucky Bicycle and Bikeway Commission (KBBC) Annual Meeting, building relationships and sharing our mission with partners across the state.
Each of these moments reflects our belief that walking and biking aren’t just recreation, they’re vital, everyday transportation options that deserve investment and attention.
Welcoming New Board Leadership
Bike Walk Kentucky was pleased to welcome new voices to our Board of Directors in 2025. We’re excited to announce the addition of Ralph Davis, Christopher Butz, Michael Huston, and Jeff Moore.
Each brings a wealth of professional experience and a shared passion for advancing safer, more accessible biking and walking infrastructure across the state. Their leadership will help guide our work as we grow our impact and deepen our advocacy across Kentucky.
Investing in Kentucky’s Active Living Future: A New Program Manager
Kentucky is full of vibrant small towns, historic main streets, and beautiful rural landscapes—but too many communities still lack safe, comfortable ways to walk, bike, and stay active.
That’s where our new Program Manager comes in.
In partnership with the Kentucky State Physical Activity & Nutrition Program (SPAN), this role strengthens bike and walk advocacy statewide by helping tell Kentucky’s active living stories, convening local leaders through regional workshops, and connecting communities to key resources—from the State of Kentucky’s Complete Streets Manual to tools and guidance from the Kentucky Bicycle and Bikeway Commission, statewide bikeway maps, planning resources, and safety information.
Together, this work builds momentum, supports smarter policy, and lays the foundation for safer, more accessible walking and biking. So every Kentuckian can move comfortably and confidently in their own community.
Looking Ahead to 2026: Our First-Ever Lobby Day
As we head into 2026, we’re excited to turn this momentum into action at the state level.
Mark your calendars for February 13, 2026, when Bike Walk Kentucky will host our first-ever statewide Lobby Day at the Kentucky Capitol. This will be an opportunity for advocates from across the Commonwealth to come together, share their stories, and speak up for safer walking and biking in every Kentucky community.
More details are coming soon—but for now, save the date and plan to join us in Frankfort.
